UBIK is an artist, whose practice has evolved from fashioning corrosive style paintings on wood, to larger installations that prominently feature found objects. Constantly referring to the lack of decay and old in his homeland and the modern artist as a coloniser, his works seem to lend the appropriated materials a second life.
UBIK expresses his desire to extend the life of an object beyond the intended narrative thereby leading to its ephemerality being written in the ruins of an intended display. In Dubai, he was the co-creator of a ‘portable gallery’, single-sheet magazine “Cliché” which championed the city’s then nascent underground scene. UBIK’s recent shows include As You Can See (Austria and New Delhi), and Iterations and Dissident (Madrid) and an installation at the first Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
