Vidhya Mohankumar based in Chennai, is an architect and urban designer with 14 years of work experience in India, Ireland and the United States. Her work is focused on creating cities that are people-centric and transit-oriented as part of a sustainable development agenda that she is passionate about. Her approach is driven by research that is grounded and intersectional as a way to decode the everyday urbanism of cities. In 2011, she founded Urban Design Collective- a collaborative platform for creating livable cities through participatory planning. Towards this purpose, various methods that are employed include urban mapping & research, education & capacity building, participatory workshops, public & socially engaged art, publications and public events programming.
Vidhya received a Masters degree in Urban Design from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA and Bachelors in Architecture from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli, India.
