Shroomtea aka Samsam is a visual artist based out of New Delhi. After some years of studying taxation laws, she lost her mind just enough to start painting in the streets of her hometown Kolkata with her first crew The Ferals. Eventually she moved to New Delhi and started the Aerosol Assassins Crew with a couple of India’s first graffiti writers, Zine and Rane Insame. She has also extensively worked in visual storytelling through illustrations and comics. Through the years of her practice as an independent female artist in India, she’s developed a keen interest in gender and specifically in how it occupies public spaces, taking off from a body of work that explored the human form, technology, the surreal as well as collaborations with various creators in exploring gender and sexuality. She has been invited to paint at various festivals and cities across India as well as having contributed to various Indian publications for almost a decade.
